Tedious Tasks for Writers

July 5, 2010

Are there times when you feel brain dead or too tired to think straight? Never fear, you can still accomplish something by doing a mindless task. Here’s a list of boring jobs to do when you want to be productive without much mental effort.

  • Organize your Browser’s Bookmarks or Favorites.
  • Verify that the links are still valid on these lists and delete those sites no longer useful to you.
  • Verify that the links are still valid on your website.
  • Update mailing lists and remove bounces and unsubscribes.
  • Back up files from the Cloud to your hard drive.
  • Back up files to other media.
  • Sort through paper and electronic files and delete old material.
  • Sort through images online and old photos.
  • Erase old messages in E-mail folders.
  • Convert old files on your computer to the latest version if you want to keep them.
  • Eliminate duplicate photos and files.
  • Write blogs like this one.

What else would you add?

  1. I guess staring at the cursor and wishing it would move and write the scene for me, isn’t an option?

Good list though. Reminds me of few things I should probably do.

  2. Research other great blogs to use as a promotional platform when your own books are released. I wrote to several dozen blog authors and asked if they would post my article or interview me…most said yes!

  3. Good suggestions, all. Update the website and blog template. Check out other people’s blogs and schedule guest visits. More tasks to add to the list!

  4. Updating new links of blogs, adding new “gadgets” and making sure all my Yahoo groups, Twitter, Facebook, website and Blogger buttons are all on each other to guarantee all my fans (?) can find all my social networking and internet presences. Since I’m NOT a techie type, this is both tedious AND arduous.

  5. Thanks, Lise, now you’ve given me MORE things to do! My Tedious Tasks for Writers list keeps getting longer. I’ll add your ideas.

  6. How about answering people’s questions as to have you found a job yet after moving across the state. Uhm lets see I’ve spent about a month running my husband to doctor appointments. The job hunt would be when? Hey I have been busy writing too!
