St. Kitts is a pleasant island with mountainous views. I’d only been here once before and was looking forward to our scheduled tour.

Cooking with Locals at Fairview Greathouse
On this shore excursion from RCCL’s Allure of the Seas, my friend, Ann Meier, and I rode in an air-conditioned bus along the coastline and then up a hill to historic Fairview Greathouse, which used to be a hotel. Here are some views from along the way:

In a classroom with a kitchen, we took seats and set about our assignments. Each table had a platter of vegetables that needed slicing and dicing.

The chef assembled the dishes and cooked them in front of us, explaining her techniques with running commentary. Tantalizing aromas spread throughout the room. Soon we got to taste the fruit of our efforts in a lunch of steamed moist fish, jerk chicken, lentils and rice, a vegetable mixture, and bread pudding for dessert. The latter was a bit overdone, likely assembled and baked the previous day since this would have taken too long for our class. It was a delicious meal, accompanied by a cup of fruit juice. We left along with a link to download the recipes.

Then we had time to roam through the historic portions of the house, enjoy the gardens, or lounge in the shade by a bar. Restrooms are available, and there’s a very small gift shop.

Back at the port, we shopped in the marketplace before heading back to the ship. St. Kitts is a scenic island with mountainous, green-covered terrain and is worth a repeat visit. I had been here previously, and you can read that post HERE.

Nancy – I love the detail. It’s like being there with you (without the heat and the cost and having to leave the house ;).

Thanks Sally. I do enjoy recounting my travels. It helps me remember the details.
