Having been to St. Maarten numerous times before, my friend Ann Meier and I chose not to do a shore excursion from RCCL’s Allure of the Seas. Instead, we took the water taxi into town ($7 round-trip). Make sure your boat goes to Hodge Pier, which is in the center of town and not to the piers at either end. We browsed in our favorite stores and found some new ones, but we were sad to see the quaint Guavaberry Liqueur building was permanently closed. They still have a shop by the port.

At the far end of the street, we turned right and headed to The Green House for lunch. There we met the manager, a delightful lady, and we ate a delicious meal. I had a fried fish sandwich with a choice of two sides. Ceiling fans swirled overhead, and we used the free WiFi available here.

I’ve also eaten before at The Green House in St. Thomas by the waterfront and would recommend that one as well. After lunch, we headed back to the port to check out the gift shops before returning to the ship. St. Maarten remains one of my favorite islands.
St. Thomas

We’ve been to St. Thomas many times before and done the tours, so this visit we opted out of a shore excursion from RCCL’s Allure of the Seas and took a taxi into town to shop around. We visited our favorite stores and then headed back to the port since the ship had an early departure time.
