I always enjoy the food on a cruise, and my recent one on RCCL’s Adventure of the Seas was no exception. This cruise, we celebrated my birthday. Our travel agent sent a chocolate cake, and waiters serenaded me in the Main Dining Room and at Giovanni’s specialty restaurant.
At dinner, we had a table for four, with my friend Ann Meier and my cousins, Janice and David Sklar. Janice and David sent this lovely appetizer platter to my cabin as a birthday gift.
Breakfast was my favorite meal. I prefer the buffet since it has all the items I like and you don’t have to get waited on in the dining room. The Windjammer opened at 7am, where we were greeted each morning by the Washy Washy man. Rows of sinks are provided for you to wash your hands before entering the buffet lines. I’d advise using hand sanitizer as well before you eat, because then you’re touching all the serving utensils. I really miss these high protein breakfasts now that I’m home.
Lunch was hit or miss, at the buffet or in the dining room or out on an island. We did get lunch at an Ecolodge on our tour of the Dominican Republic as described earlier. In St. Thomas, we ate at Gladys’s restaurant, and in San Juan we dined at Barrachini’s where I had grouper fingers. It’s fun to try different places on the islands to sample the native foods. Toward the end of the cruise, this tantalizing cake display appeared in the buffet.
For quick Snacks, free soft serve ice cream was available on the pool deck every day. The Promenade Café on Deck 5 had complimentary pizza along with small sandwiches and pastries.
Since Ann and I are Diamond status or above, we were privileged to enjoy Appetizers at 4:30 each evening in the Crown Lounge. On this ship, it’s in a prime location on Deck 14 overlooking the pool deck with sea views on both sides. I could have feasted on these foods alone.
In the evenings, we ate Dinner in the Main Dining Room. Ann and I ate one night in Giovanni’s Italian Restaurant, a specialty dining spot with an ocean view.
My dinner starters ranged from French onion soup to Caprese salad to a hummus platter.
For entrees, the first night I had Prime Ribs in the main dining room. In Giovanni’s, I had filet mignon. Other entrée choices on subsequent nights included braised lamb, shrimp in garlic sauce, lobster, and I don’t remember the rest. I get my fill of meat on cruises since I don’t eat much of it at home.
I liked the fruit cobblers and custardy Desserts more than cakes, and you could always order ice cream to finish off a meal. However, more variety other than vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate might have been appreciated.
Now I have to eat healthy so as to prepare for the next cruise aboard Utopia of the Seas.
